Like everyone else here i am a DACA recipient, additionally i am a CPA in New York. Well here is my dilemma that i hope someone can give me some advice, guidance, or share there story. I work for a company thats upward of 300 million in revenue, i am the assistant controller there but education and my cpa certifiction is irrelevant. The owners do not really care for any of that, additionally they promoted a bookkeeper that has been there for 5 years to become controller so this has become a dead end for me, sort of. Currently im making 65k and im considering leaving. Now i considered entering public accounting but i cant see myself taking a pay cut. So several questions, if i do go into public, can i ask for 70k? Is it worth going into public? Im really curious to hear others experience, your story, anything you can share. This is the first place im at that has a similiar story to me. Pleasure to meet you all.
As an Assistant Controller, you should be making six figures. You should leave and move to a bigger company.

You can move to a Big 4, but understand that you wouldn't be making significantly more, and the work will be different. Auditing is different than going through the month-end close processes, recording/posting journal entries. You have to adjust your mindset, and you're likely going to be working more hours for relatively the same pay. Is that worth it?

I say since you've got this Assistant Controller title, why not look for a Controller position at a larger company and then move your way up to executive management?
