The Washingtonians are way more friendly, in fact, the friendliest people I have ever met here in US. Everyone who crossed paths with us said hello. There were a few occasions where some food market cashiers offered us to bring our bags to our car. The Washington DL gives 5 years and no mentions of immigration status. You can live in Vancouver,WA. just across the bridge from Portland. It will be cheaper and in WA there is no income tax. If you want to live even better, consider Camas, WA. In 10 to 20 minutes you will be in Portland.
Haha funny story about Vancouver, WA. When I covered for another consultant in Portland OR for a week. I saw that across the bridge was Vancouver and I was so afraid to drive the rental car across because I thought it was Vancouver in Canada for some reason. Had to pull over and check the map.

Try a Voodoo donut while you're down there.
