This is not what we need.
DACA permit holders have jobs and get insurance from them.
We need expanded DACA to cover all childhood arrivals - regardless of age. At a minimum.
When so many American citizens cannot obtain even Medicaid or ACA marketplace plans due to the backward state governors that rule some states, this is not good optics. Yes, I know that DACA recipients getting access to subsidies for health care does not stop access for others, but the point is that this will not sit well with many.
Which brings me to another point, which is that DACA holders who live in backward states will not be able to access expanded Medicaid or ACA subsidies.
Only 580,310 or roughly 30% of the 1.5M estimated Dreamers (including those whose age was capped out of the Obama program or those too new to the U.S) are covered by DACA. And 7.5M undocumented remain with no clear path to legalization.
Work on what matters: a legalization program.
