I wish they'd just do something like $50,000 regularization fee where you apply for status, have no criminal record, pay back taxes if any, learn English, and get a gc in 10-20 depending on how long your backlog would've been so long as you've been in the country since 2005. Then once the border is secured shift it to a rolling year.
And those $50,000 could go for border security and job training for citizens.
It'd be a win win for everyone, but this is the states. They are allergic to simple straitforward fixes and are racist to a self-injurious degree. So it needs to include an arbitrary and callous provision. Maybe every 6th applicant has to climb everest and grow a large pumpkin and have a labor certification and a masters degree lmao.
Oh and it's capped at 30,000 only per year and if any aren't used then they are wasted.
Maybe just auction off the family based cards every year and use the excess funds to modernize uscis so they stop being a slow overpaperworked agency.
