This is what they red voters do. They see their bombed out rustbelt cities and dying de industrialized, maybe it was a coal city and instead of improving them and bringing industry back they make a beeline strait for the nearest blue city to vote for the exact same things that ruined their previous cities.

The south and red states almost always trail blue states economically and are subsidized by blue states. If the blue states stopped subsidizing them they'd quickly turn the south back into swamp. And everything metal would be scavenged and scrapped.
