As the allegations against Eliot Spitzer were unveiled last week (in astounding detail) and he was forced to resign, we were reminded of another politician who was recently busted for his links to prostitution --- David Vitter. Unlike Eliot Spitzer, Vitter refused to resign and still "serves" (I use that term loosely) his Louisiana constituents. In a conference call with constituents last week, Vitter bitterly defended his prostitution bust - claiming it was totally different.

Quote:
"I have made a very serious mistake a long time ago and I have to live with that every day," Vitter said, according to Jordan's account. "That's not a flippant statement. I need to spend my whole life making up for that." According to Jordan, Vitter turned "a bit defiant" and added: "Anybody who looks at the two cases will see there is an enormous difference between the two of them. The people that are trying to draw comparisons to the two cases are people who've never agreed with me on important issues like immigration and other things."
A-ha! It's the immigration, stupid! It's not his fault he was busted with a prostitute (who later went on to claim that David liked to be diapered and babied). Nooooo, no siree. It's the fault of all those people who disagree with him on immigration. Never mind the fact that he never actually details any differences between the two cases. It has to be his immigration policy. In essence, Spitzer's prostitution problem is a character issue, while Vitter's prostitution problem was an immigration issue. Got it? Totally different.

However, Vitter isn't completely wrong.....there are some differences between his case and Spitzer's. Without further ado, we present the top 10 reasons below:
  1. Larry Flynt wasn't tipped off first.
  1. IOKIYAR
  1. Spitzer lost his job, while Vitter has moved on with (risky) business as usual.
  1. The Republican leadership was outraged by Spitzer's behavior. Vitter? Not so much. In fact, they appear to be relieved that Vitter's prostitue was at least over the age of consent. A nice change for their party.
  1. The bust was different? Oooooh......Vitter thought we said "busts."
  1. Vitter asked for and received forgiveness from God. His slate is as clean as can be.
  1. Vitter only went to prostitutes because his wife was not down with the idea of seeing her husband in a big diaper, begging to have his bottom powdered. It was really more of a marital aide. Totally different.
  1. Vitter drew a firm moral line and immediately dumped his hooker after discovering her name was the same as his wife's.
  1. His hookers were way, way cheaper than Spitzer's, only running around $300 per hour, compared with Spitzer's $5500 calls.
And, the #1 reason that Vitter's case is different than Spitzer's?
Because he says so.

You see? Totally different. What are some other distinctions we can make between the two cases? Let 'em rip below!
