A GOP source familiar with discussions said that if the White House and Democrats can’t reach a deal soon, President Trump is considering a (border wall) executive action separate from a possible emergency declaration.

The source added that President Trump is also being encouraged by some conservatives to take this executive action instead of yielding on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, what they consider “amnesty."

Why this matters: On Saturday, Trump launched a new plan to end the government shutdown and offered temporary protection from deportations for some undocumented immigrants in exchange for $5.7 billion in wall funding.

He offered a three-year reprieve from deportation to undocumented migrants brought to the US as children who are covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and to people from certain nations who qualify for Temporary Protected Status.
