Depending on the outcome of that vote, the Senate either could conduct a series of additional votes in relation to the defense bill and the DREAM Act amendment to it during the week, or the Majority Leader could be forced to pull the bill from the Senate floor, altogether."
The only other thing I would add is what my brother, who is an immigration councilor and specialist, believes.
That is, if the DREAM amendment to the DOD bill fails (and maybe even if it passes) Obama will take executive action in October for temporary protective status. This would give millions of law-abiding immigrants work ID permits and driver's licenses. The theory is that, regardless of the November election outcome, the US Congress would then be pressured to do CIR next year. His belief is partly based on the memo entitled “Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform”, by USCIS, which was leaked in July. After the 2007 disaster, I refuse to idulge in too much optimism...but there is always hope.
