I would send them anyway as I believe it makes my app look better. Last time I filled all info myself with my own hand-writing and in the essay section I always say "Thank you very much for your valuable time, I appreciate it." at the end, not superstitious at all but I think including the photos gives my application a sense of completeness and my hand-writing a valuable touch of carefulness which in turn, at least according to me, makes the guy checking my app feel better about it too. Sometimes I inside-joke saying the only thing left out of my essay is a cute heart, but even without it I try to convey I'm a human being and that this working permit means everything in my life, which in all honesty it does.
