Although we don't have an adjusted status like permanent residence, the DHS granted all of us who were approved, two years of legal presence. That legal presence is what authorizes us to work, to apply for a social security card and to apply for a state ID. You may disagree with me but try getting these documents without legal presence and see how far you can go with the government!
