The only think I've used my ITIN for was to open a bank account and a few past employers have used it instead of a social, when I got w-2 or 1099 I never filed. I remember getting at least 2 letters from ss saying that earnings were reported for me but they had no ss on file, I never responded, that was yearssss ago. I've never used it for any credit cards or anything like that . should I still have it rescind? should I also transfer those earning to the new ss? will there be a penalty when I am finally able to file taxes?
Yep, rescind your ITIN since your SSN replaces it (it says so right on the ITIN letter). Regarding your issue for not filing taxes all these years and the unclaimed SS earnings letter, you will have to consult with a Certified Public Accountant.
