START DATE: Monday, April 6 (we need to get more numbers!)
INDEX CARDS can be used as post cards!! If they are 4" by 6" they will be sent via the standard postcard rate of 27 cents. Buy 100 pack of index cards from the 99cent store.

TOTAL over 4 weeks:

1235 postcards

SHOUT OUT TO DIANNELA FOR SENDING 440!

The number has changed to 15 senators instead of 20. This is because the following senators will not accept mail from people outside of their constituency:

Specter, Arlen R-PA
Greg, Judd, R-NH
Landrieu, Mary D-LA
Byrd, Robert D-WV
Graham, Lindsey R-SC

I don’t know if there is an official postcarding campaign going on, but I just want to throw this idea out there for a DAP campaign.

Besides flooding senators with phone calls and voice mails, we NEED to ABSOLUTELY FLOOD their mailboxes with written pleas.
I’ve decided to commit myself to sending 20 postcards each week…one for each of the 20 senators who’s position on the dream act we aren’t entirely sure about. That will put me at a total of 80 postcards at the end of 4 weeks, and if 100 people commit to this, we can get out 8,000 post cards in just about a month.

I know that there is an official Dream act postcard, and that last year over 600 were sent out. But I don’t think this is enough in these crucial times. Sending massive amounts of pleas in writing can be even more effective than the usual phone calls which only reach senators’ assistants. We have to turn the notch up this time around! We can’t keep using our fear of putting ourselves out there as an excuse for not doing SOMETHING.

My game plan:
INDEX CARDS can be used as post cards!! If they are 4" by 6" they will be sent via the standard postcard rate of 27 cents. Buy 100 pack of index cards from the 99cent store. And if you are afraid they will track down your return address...then don't put it.

100 index cards: $1- $2
cost of stamps: 27cents each.
total to send 80 over 4 weeks: $21.60
total send 40 over 4 weeks: $10.80
total for 20 over 4 weeks: $5.40

Buy blank ones 4x6 inches. And on one side you can put "pass the dream act in 09" in big bold black or red ink, and on the other side write you message, and the address of the senator.

You can write:
Dear Senator _________. I am writing to ask you to support the Dream Act. I believe all children should have the opportunity to educate themselves, achieve their goals, and succeed in life. Sincerely, _________

Dear Senator ---------__________. I would like to express my support for the Dream Act. I believe education and opportunity is our only way forward as a nation. It doesn’t help anyone if a significant population of our youth is left in the dust without access to either.
Sincerely, _____________

These are just examples.
I will scan a picture of my set Monday to let everyone know how I designed mine if people are in need of ideas!

Then…after making 20, put it in a mailbox and…DONE. Repeat again next week. You represent one action, but multiplied by 100, this is 2,000 postcards going out per week, and it speaks A LOT.

Please join !!! I’ll be sending out my 20 every Tuesday….with people choosing different days, the senators will be overwhelmed, EVERYDAY.
