If you are not a citizen or permanent resident, you must carry your passport with you. Might as well. Better safe than sorry. If somebody gives you shit, slap the EAD on their face and point out, preferably kindly, the part in your EAD which says (C)(33). Most likely they will be oblivious so go ahead and explain to them fully what that means.
