Just keep quiet about it. The key is to look confident about your own legality in the eyes of the employer. Usually when they give you the I-9, simply put your SS# on it and select green card, while telling them that you are in the pending process. Try to act like you are unfamiliar with your own documents and immigration process (most greencard holders/citizens are clueless about immigration procedures). INS requires employers to hire you as long as they believe you are legal. Fortunately, a lot of small businesses don't even have the forms on hand, nor do they care. All they will make you fill is the W-4 form to determine your tax filling status(single, married, etc).
