I am a CPA and you're absolutely right. It's not required. The Non-Resident Tax return comes in when somebody has just arrived in this country or is on some sort of Student or Work Visa and doesn't meet the substantial presence test (You have to be here physically in this country or else you have to file a Non-Resident return. I think the softwares like turbotax probably ask the question "Citizen or Resident Alien" or something like that. But all DACA recipients and most undocumented for that matter are Resident Aliens for tax purposes.
