My girlfriend (we live in L.A.) goes out there all the time and she has never seen a checkpoint. You might see those agricultural checkpoints where big trailers have to stop and they make you slow down (but you never really stop). However, this has nothing to do with immigration. I'm going to Vegas next month to watch The Lion King, Phantom, and Cirque. Just make sure not to get too wasted and do something dumb out there.
