okay so i know that in order to qualify for the benefits of the DREAM Act.. one must have "good moral character"

lets say that you live in one state.. but you go to another state that allows undocumented immigrants to get drivers licenses in order to get one.. you would have to put a "fake" address of residence..

is that compromising ones moral character? would that disqualify one from getting the benefits of the DREAM Act?

Ugh to be honest if you want a real answer and not speculation then this question is a question for a lawyer. The term "moral character" is still very vague and no one on here really knows what it means, but seriously I think this will depend on how big of an a-hole the USCIS official is who's doing the interview. It is common knowledge among USCIS officials which states require SSN/GC for a DL and which don't. If he runs your BG check and it shows up that you do have a DL from let's say NM but you are from CA, he might say "We'll at least he put in the effort to get an ID instead of driving without one" but at the same time he might go "A license from NM?. Ok, can you provide some proof that you have lived there for an X amount of time? Also by state guidelines when you are a resident of another state you should surrender your previous out-of-state license" and etc.

But as far as getting the license itself there is nothing illegal about it in WA or NM as long as you live there. If you have a real address and utility bills you are allowed to get it there just like everyone else. The problem comes up when you try to use an address being used by other people already and etc.

As far as I know, good moral character is another way of saying 'doesn't have a criminal record'

Also, like ^ he said, there's nothing wrong with getting a license in another state if you get it legitimately

this is kind of a similar question.. but is anyone here or does anyone know anybody that got a drivers license from a state that they did not live in while they were applying for a green card ( but didnt have a visa, so basically undocumented) who was successful in eventually getting the green card? even though they had the drivers license from a different state?
