Quote:
A group of Democratic lawmakers wants to use the immigration reform debate to fix one of the most hotly contested aspects of the health care law — provisions that bar immigrants from using new government programs to get coverage.

The move by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus would add a contentious new element to an already monumental task — passing a bill that puts 11 million illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.

But mixing two of the most controversial pieces of legislation backed by President Barack Obama — health care and immigration — could complicate immigration reform’s already tenuous chances, raising difficult political and policy questions about when this group of future citizens can receive benefits.

I feel like they are doing everything they can to make passing a CIR bill even harder.

To which the evangelicals have this to say:

Evangelical Leaders Support Immigration Reform as Long as It Doesn't Include Gay Rights:

http://washingtonindependent.com/919...ude-gay-rights

All of the sudden they are piling on health-care reform amendments to cover immigrants; contesting inclusion of gay rights, all of which will derail any possible legalization. Democrats are full of it - They can't even get gay rights for the general population and armed forces, let alone for immigrants. To a non-existant bill.

Ooops, the previous post was meant in reply to the evangelica thread - but it relates to this too. Trying to post at work between assignments is not easy...

Dear democrats, have an issue that needs fixing but most likely it wont pass on its own? Don't stick it to another issue that won't pass on its own, stick it to a big spending bill...
