I'm getting a little homesick. Ever since getting an EAD I moved out (due to unforeseen circumstances) and have settled at a job as a clerk in a litigation office. It felt like I was secured, I even had two part-times with it, but now that I realize by everyone that I know since getting in are now leaving and moving on.

I kind of feel old, and dreary of the same routine. I was wondering if there are other opportunities that I could take, and thanks to DACA, I can. However, I'm just fearful because finding something I love and would actually want to do is said to be very difficult. Even harder without a degree or meaningful certificate. Otherwise, I think I'm starting to get job rust like my other (also DACA) friend. He works as a teller, found it great, but now is dreary because of the monotony. Can we escape the cycle of day jobs?

What job or career have you taken in after getting your DACA? Did you change a lot of jobs or did you stay and get promoted? Or are you stuck in a dead-end like I am, what are your plans for 2015!

I understand the frustration. I was there about a year ago and decided that I wanted more and chose to leave my two part time jobs for a better opportunity. They are out there and you just have to make up your mind that you are looking for something better. But you also have to be patient. It isn't going to just land in your lap. For instance in the case of your friend, he should do some research on career opportunities that need teller experience and see if any of those suit him better.

I was approved in December 2012 and did not begin working until about June of 2013. I spent that time learning to drive, filling out employment applications and weighing my options about going back to school. I worked two part time jobs that I hated (parcel handler and sales associate/cashier) for a year, but I knew that I needed to find full time employment related to my actual career goal which is becoming an MD. I was lucky to land that opportunity in May 2014 working in electronic medical record keeping. And I will not be staying here long, either.

I live in Georgia, so attending school here is not an option. But, I am lucky that my current employer is nationwide and I will be able to secure a transfer once I am accepted to a college out of state. Luckily, more and more medical schools are accepting DREAMers and helping with funding, so I will be pursuing my education starting in 2016.

I want to end up in the science field, specifically the microbiology and Biotech Industry. It's growing and expanding in my state so getting a degree in those fields pretty much secures me with a job. My first job with DACA was for a charity signing people up for donations. After that I started working for an optometrist/ optical retail. Shortly after that I was the doctors assistant. I left that job not because I wanted to but because I got a job opportunity closer to home. My last job was doing tech/ networking support for a video game company. I left that job to travel and visit my family after a dirty break up. Now I'm going to work at the same doctors office I was working at part time and will be attending school to get a degree as a biotech lab technician and hopefully get my BS in microbiology. Everything is hard work but its all worth it in the end.

Have you heard of financial freedom? It's going to happen to me before I turn 50. All this is possible due to DACA. You, unless you have a clear goal, you will never escape the cycle of day jobs. =) Also, you sound extremely naive, or extremely young to be able to appreciate your current situation. You make your own life, you make your own choice, you do what you love to do, and the money will follow. Good luck to you!!!

I got a job in the oil industry. I have a Masters though. Thankfully it has been great since DACA, I have been traveling overseas constantly. My employer knows of my situation and thankfully has been understanding . There is hope you just got to define a clear goal first.
