In my case, not at all. I live in a state where I've had access to a driver's license, so that was never an issue. And, while an unpleasant experience, getting a job while out of status was never out of reach. In fact, it's the relative ease with which we can get jobs that results in the 11 million of us being here.

Aside from those who did not have a driver's licence or who were in deportation proceedings, the only group whose life has had a tangible change is those lucky few with college degrees. I rejoice in their success and good fortune.

As for me, having an EAD has not opened any doors at all. I was a lot more excited on election day when the Maryland Dream Act passed the referendum granting in-state tuition to illegal immigrants. But then I found out that it's only for those who graduated from high school after 2009, which disqualifies me.

I guess it could be argued that not having to fear deportation is a benefit in itself, however, I've lived here so long that that was never something I feared.

What I need, whether it be through the Dream Act or some bill like it, is access to government student loans like Stafford loans. Otherwise, I'll simply stay stuck in a menial job and make little progress towards advancing my goals.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Will change my life DEFINETELY. I have everything I need, except my SSN, which should be here within 2 weeks. I live in Alabama, so I doubt they will give me a drivers license but fuck that, I'll just drive without one. I graduated this past May, and ever since DACA was announced I've been chilling at home waiting to get my papers so I can start working and going to college.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and optimism (not so much the coarse language), but how do you plan to pay for college?

I'll be working full time up till August, so I can rack up $ to go to college . Starting August I will work part time so I will be able to go to college. I'll be going to a community college.

OP, unless you're wanting to get into a professional program like medicine, law or pharmacy, paying for school while working is totally doable. I know lots of individuals who worked during college and were able to pay for school that way. that's what i plan on doing. even if you take only a couple of classes each semester, it's worth it.

OP

I live in Maryland, I graduated from a 4-year college without the MD dream act by going to community college first, then university. I worked all the time I was in college. Took my a while, but I did it, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to.

As far as changing my life... It's only been a week so I can't really say but at least, I'm much less apprehensive about looking for a job without having the disappointment of having people turn me away or desisting because I don't have permission to work in the US. Now I have more options, now I'll actually be able to start my life instead of leaving off of my parents.
