No, we need the Dems more than the Republicans. Republicans are a stumbling block to all sorts of progress. If you hadn't noticed, not many Republicans support CIR.

We need people in power to support these ideas (republican or democrat). If democrats keep losing power, we don't need to tie ourselves to a sinking ship. The important thing is getting to average voters, the politicians will follow.

What many of us dont realize is, that republicans dont vote for whats best in their and the countries interest. They vote for what would make obama's ratings dip.

Every republican would realize that passage of immigration reform would seal the hispanics with democrats for a decade or so and give Obama something to talk about.

His failure with the hispanis would be their gawking point.

Something will be done on immigration and it might not be what we expect.

Remember how in the beginning of the healthcare debate President Obama said that he would not sign into law any healthcare reform bill that did NOT include the public option. But lo and behold he is just about to do that. The Democrats and especially Obama have come to terms with the reality that they won't get all of their legislation dreams. Democrats aren't really unified as you would think.

As long as Obama can say he passed some sort of healthcare reform then he has at least nominally accomplished one of his goals.

So I believe that immigration reform will be addressed this year just so Obama and the Democrats can have something to talk about for the midterm elections.

Perhaps and I hope it will be a piecemeal act of legislation such as the Dream Act.
