As President Obama and Senate Democrats push to pass an immigration bill this year, one key ingredient is still conspicuously missing: a second Republican to co-sponsor the legislation.

Bullshit! Because they had Mel Martinez available up until recently. Now that he's gone, they very conveniently say they need a second Republican they had available all last year. Hahahahaha, nice try. Where's the second Democrat????

It’s very obvious: Obama wants to blame somebody else for not doing what he promised.

They have been saying this now for a couple of weeks. This report comes from a very conservative paper in Washington, and seems they are a little behind the news cycle. Anyway, it is most likely a piece that is intended to try to keep Republicans from supporting the bill. In this case, the report could be bad--the Republican anti-immigration right is gloating that no sponsor is to be found. On the other hand, sometimes you can tell when things are getting serious if a conservative paper tries to act to stop it--so optimistically maybe we should hope some Republican is getting close to signing on so the Washington Times is reporting this to scare away potential co-sponsors.

Perhaps it was the plan all along.Democrats in the Senate introduced S.9 since early last year & the place holder has basically gone nowhere. There were rumours the President will wait until 2011 to make a try but who knows how that will go come the election results.

Support needs to be built from the bottom up, i.e. rallies, calls, pressure, from grass-roots campaign. Otherwise, I don't see elected officials listening.

To co-sponsor what legislation? As far as I know, there is no bill. How can anyone co-sponsor a bill that hasn't even been written. Senator Schumer and Senator Graham, get on it.

Did any of you read the comments on the article? Every single person that commented on it thinks that this bill would be an amnesty, which by all means it is not. Let me re-phrase that, most of the people who commented think that the final bill will be an amnesty. It will not be, I don't even know where they got that from, I mean I get it, closet-racism can make people say crazy things, but these people need to read the 'framework' for the bill. Not even close to amnesty at all.
