The world, and this country, is not the same place in 2010 as in 2007. Not culturally, not economically, not in the way communication is handled.

I think we need to come up with a strategy that is more fitted to the world we currently live in - dominated by by rampaging groups of internet bullies, a depressed economy with a growing underclass, a public with their attention focused on top "news" stories that give MORE air time to Lindsay Lohan being sentenced to jail than to the end of combat missions in Iraq ( that is actually true ). Communication is dominated by facebook and chats and for some weird reason the ultra conservatives have made better use of the internet than we have.

You can't fight this kind of media "war" using solely conventional weapons and strategies.

Do you think a big march or protest will get their attention ? I really don't think so. How many people protested the Iraq war ? How much coverage did that get ?

I know this post isn't very helpful, because I don't know what will work - but I really think that our politicians need to be at least as ballsy as the opposition - and they aren't. And I think in the current environment you aren't going to get any action based on the moral high ground or compassion, or basic human decency. You are fighting against people who don't give a f#$k that little kids with cancer are denied insurance coverage.

No offense, but you also really need to look at the bigger world picture and not dismiss concerns people have about their own jobs / economic well being. Yes you are being used as a scapegoat for much bigger problems - like outsourcing. The selling points have to be at least partially based on the buyers own self interest. And there are plenty of good points.

MRSMOM- I understand your concerns but regardless of how bad things are, we need to focus on the bigger picture, the Republicans are coming in January 5th. Once their in things are going to be very hard for us, so we also need to strike back harder. We got huge media attention in 07 and yes the climate did change, but we have allies out there, who cannot be afraid of the tea party and help us win this fight. Because if they do the latino community will be there for them in the future. But we also need this country to listen to us. I believe in border security and I also believe we should focus on it first. BUT our lives cannot continue in this limbo. We love this country , some of us would go even further and die for this country. The U.S is seen as haven place to many other nations in the planet , because of it's education, values etc. Protests , rallies, vigils should be our top priority next congress and hopefully we will get the support we need.

Nick is right. Murkowski was a surprise. She actually voted yes.
Anyway.

I urge everyone to read this.
http://dreamact.info/forum/showpost....03&postcount=8

But we have to do everything. Next time when we fail again, do we blame ourselves not calling them????
We have to use all available tactics to take down the capitol hills.

I urge everyone prepare to send email to Durbin and Reid, and urge them to work with the Republican later.
I know Durbin will continue with the conversation. But he has other priorities too. So we have to keep the pressure on him.

And again, please thanks Durbin for his hard work.

The United States will forever be in a time warp.

"Hey, look at those half-naked guys. They must be devil-worshipers, let's enslave them and kill them off!"
"Hey, what's wrong with that guy's skin? Did he roll around in ash or something? Hey, let's enslave him!"
"Is that kid making faces at me?! Go back to building my railroad! You know what, let's make an Exclusion Act for his people!"
"Huh? You want to vote? Get back to the kitchen, woman!"
"Oh, European? I LOVE Europe-- huh? WTF is Yugoslavia? There's an 'Eastern' Europe? GET OUT!"
"What do you mean we can't enslave the ashy guys anymore? Fine, but that doesn't mean I have to share!"
"I'm, gonna shove that iron curtain right up your--OH MY GOD, NUKE!"
"Those guys with the towels aren't on the swimming team, they're evil! They practice a religion which is very similar to my own, even sharing the same God, but they are somehow inferior!"
"Oh God, I've done it now... I've ruined the economy. No... that sort of thinking is Un-American! Uh... those brown guys did it! Yeah! They took our jobs! Outsourcing? What's that?"

I beg to differ. The Senate voted to protect the interests of American citizens which I applaud. What is going on with this country? It's waking up and protecting its real citizens.

I'm done with this country constantly being xenophobic towards other immigrants.

Well, lets change it.

It's time they hear our voices
, back in 2006 and 2007 we had huge masses of crowds protests in the U.S's major cities. I think its time we escalate our efforts, no more phone calls, Rep.Guiterrez said he would break away from the DEMs and take the fight into the streets.

And that is what we must do.

Use the loss of this sad day and use it as your fire. And let those who voted NO that they will be held accountable. The latino community is watching.

It's time this country hears all of us, things look bleak for next congress, but not impossible. God is good , he is great and this is a test.

Lets change this nation, 2012 is right around the corner.

If a hundred people came to your house and started screaming and demanding you give them things, what would you think? What would you do?

Mass protests don't work either. All they do is provide picture fodder for Fox News. Eventually some dipshit burns an american flag, comes dressed up like Nacho Libre with a red white and green outfit, or comes out with a sign that says "White People Go Home" and it makes every newspaper in the country.

Thats why the 06 protests backfired. If you can guarantee dipshits won't show up, I would agree with that tactic.
