It is very surprising to see all the negative comments about Obama and how everyone is predicting what he will do or not do. Sometimes in history people do brave things. It was political suicide when Lincoln used his executive powers and in the end he died for it. We should not write this off it is just, it is the will of the congress majority. He would only be correcting a wrong. What do we have to lose, its desperate times and it calls for desperate action.

I see no hope untill this Anti & Tea partyers are in next congress. Senate still doable but house wont do amything since there are atleast 50 tea parteyers coming in new congress to block any immigration bills. But in the end i will still be positive and we all know they will have to deal with immigration issue sooner or lateer....

These people aren't just random bloggers on the internet. They know what they're talking about:

Quote:
Cyrus D. Mehta & Associates, PLLC
Cyrus D. Mehta is the founder and managing attorney of Cyrus D. Mehta & Associates, PLLC, a New York law firm which concentrates in the area of US immigration law. The firm has talented immigration attorneys who blog here on contemporary immigration topics. Visit www.cyrusmehta.com for more information.
The Administration can't change the laws, but they can help Dreamers legalize under current law. It'll require work authorization, marriage, or family re-unification to become legalized but it'll give Dreamers a chance for legal status.

The Republicans can't complain too much (but they will anyways) because these are all under the framework of existing law and the more they try to prevent people from becoming legalized, the more the President can show Latino voters who is on their side. This is a fantastic article and people here would be wise to read it and understand its implications.

All he would do is give us differed action. Nothing more. The anti-immigrant rhetoric is increasing including among Dems. Doing anything with an EO would be political suicide. 2012 is just around the corner.

The general public already thinks that undocumented people can adjust their status "if they really want to" through marriage, work offers, joining the military, sponsorship by a relative, etc.

The anti's kept promoting that lie during the build-up to DREAM, it would be pretty ironic if that came back to bite them through an executive order. What could they complain about ? How many of them said that you could join the military already ?

I was surprised when reading the very vicious anti type comments across the internet at how many of them insisted that you aren't "legal" because you are "too lazy to do it the right way" without any awareness that there is no "right way" available to you.

Exactly, MrsMom. There are executive actions that Obama can take to ameliorate the effects of the broken immigration system. People have to get it in their heads that just because pardons aren't coming, that doesn't mean other types of executive orders can't be used such as the ones mentioned by the lawyers in that blog post.

After seeing this bill almost come full circle from 2001-2010, I've learned that the best you can do is to work/hope/pray for the best and expect the worst. Maybe Obama won't do it, but make no mistake that what happened yesterday was nothing short of a declaration of war against us by the GOP and a handful of cowardly Dems. There is no reason why the fight ends; perhaps it's only just begun.

We all have our lives to live. You are all successful in our own ways. I have confidence that y'all will make more of the very little you have legally.

Count me in CIR_DREAM and Mrs. Mom's camp. The sobering reality is that there is little recourse left legislatively. We've exhausted all of our resources in the most favorable political situation we ever had. However, the executive options above are viable, and Obama himself has mentioned that he could live with being a one-term president if he felt he did his job the right way.

I'm going to take the holidays to unwind, relax and prepare for the next round in this fight. I hope you all will too.
