My experience was the opposite. The man helping me did not want to see my BC. Only EAD and passport. I agree on bringing both docs just in case.

Just kind of a dumb question, but there is no charge to get an original (this will be my first)
social security number, right?

I plan on going tomorrow, I got my EAD this Friday.
One more thing, I live in CA (Southern California)
and if all goes well, tomorrow, when they hand me my print
out will it have the number assigned to me?
If so, can I use that print out to get an ID here in CA?

Will my Mexican matricula be good for ID purposes?
Or can I just use my EAD card?
Also, will they interview me?
If so, what will they need to find out
about me???
Thanks in advance.

No charge for the SSN.

The SSN isn't generated as soon as they submit the application, so you can't get a printout of your number on the same day. It may take a couple of days. You can call the Social Security hotline and ask if you have been issued a number before going to get a printout.

Here in California the DMV doesn't ask for the SSN card. You just need to know the number to write it down on the application, so a printout is fine. You also need to bring your EAD. That's it.

All you need is your EAD card to get your ssn. At the dmv all they ask for is your EAD and the application for a ID/DL on which you'll write down your ssn on the space provided. That's all.

The "interview" is just a series of questions they have to ask you. It's pretty much a script they follow, so no surprises. From what I remember, they ask you if you have received a SSN before, if you have ever received any public benefits, and a couple of more things like that. No big deal, really.

Yeah, I guess that instead of giving you an application so you can fill it out, they ask you the questions and fill out the application for you. It took about 10 mins to get mine done. It really is pretty fast.

Thanks, but I do not understand the "public benefits" part.
Can you elaborate on that if you can.
