I start a debate about immigration and explain why illegal immigrants are people too. Then I them that there are many young people, such as themselves, who are illegals and they might not even know it. I don't tell I'm one of them though.

I have this dumbass friend I told. I basically told him the truth that I came here on a visa but it expired and now I didn't have one. I told him about how I had paperwork filed and was waiting for it to come through. He was really supportive and sympathetic.

So you can imagine how surprised I was when he started bitching about undocumented immigrnats.WTF?????

So I called him out on it telling him that talk we had a couple months ago was me coming out as an undocumented immigrant to him. Then he got all mopey and kind of defensive and tired to convince me I wasn't one (Oh really??). It took me like an hour to convince him that I was an undocumented immigrant and that not all of us are Mexican day laborers who crossed the border.

We're cool now an he's come around (obviously) to the whole immigration issue and when we watch debates on TV he boos anti-immigration candidates and turns to me to look for approval. It's kind of cute.

Other than that, no one and I mean no one has ever suspected or even joked about it. Most people don't even realize I'm an immigrant and I thank god for that.

It's hard not to speak up and scream especially when they lump all illegal immigrants together and accuse them of "taking over American jobs" and "living off of American tax dollars". I feel lucky that none of my close friends have ever bashed illegal immigrants to me though it's still hard not to feel awkward and tense when they talk about going clubbing or vacationing and keep asking me when I am going to get my ID and join them. I have yet to get into an all out verbal brawl with anyone but I try my best to keep my temper and walk away when it starts to get too hard.

I have totally felt that way. I use to get really angry about it if they were making fun of illegals and stuff, but now I really don't care.

The other ones all said," even if we do drive there, you can't go cuz you don't have an ID, and we're going to be at the bars all the time." I was like "f*ck you alcoholic b*tches" (pardon my french). I would've been perfectly content to spend the time at the beach every day.

Only 3 of my friends know about my situation. My other friend calls me illegal, but she doesn't really know that I am. It's kinda funny.

I agree with you all... I totally hate when the immigration topic comes up cuz then they all start asking questions and I quickly try to change the subject. So awkward.
Have you ever thought that your friend calls you illegal because she does know? Oh and another thing I will go with you to Florida for the past few weeks all I can think about is laying in the beach. I don't know who to go with becaus everyone will want to fly over there and well none of my friends know. You know I don't have this problem because all of my friends are immigrant lovers illegal or not (they are all liberal). If I could only get the balls to tell someone.

Has anyone gone to South Padre Island? Is there an immigration check point?

Wow this is an old thread that has seemed to have gotten its way back into the lime light. As for my friend who called me illegal... I finally told her that I actually was and she was shocked. She literally had no clue. Of course then she told her fiance and his best friend and her family even though I told her not to talk about it to anyone. I told her this a couple of weeks before Dream Act was brought up in October... she helped call senators and now she has finally stopped telling people of my situation because I yelled at her haha. Ok not really yelled at... I just told her to respect my wishes.

I feel sorry, for that person because I understand that illegal immigration is an issue that the media doesn't justify. hrvatica, great job...
