How about we tell Reid, Durbin etc. to call the Republicans on their Filibuster threat ???
Why are they constantly cowering ?? I've seen this suggestion posted other places, regarding other bills as well. The Democrats are letting themselves be held hostage to this. It is freaking ridiculous. They have the majority for heavens sake.
Let them filibuster, let them take turns standing there reading aloud for the next month 24/7 without getting to go home for Christmas ! It would soooooo help the Democrats to show some sort of back bone on SOMETHING ! ANYTHING !
They didn't just lose seats because of the teaparty ... they lost seats because many, many, many people who voted Obama and a sweep of Democrats in two short years ago thought they might get something done. Remember 2008 ? When the Repubs were falling all over themselves about how they were willing to compromise ?
If they want to get absolutely anything accomplished in the next two years they are going to HAVE to show that they can stand firm once in awhile. They will still have a slim Senate Majority -but if they can't do it now, they sure can't pass anything with less people.
And it isn't just about DREAM -- health care, taxes, the wars, etc etc etc... Come On - Restore some faith - sure we can concentrate on convincing the on-the-fence -- but bottom line - CALL THEIR BLUFF - Let them blabber away if they have too, but show a backbone.
I have many cruder more apt descriptions of what they should do - but I am a lady and won't say them.

Stop being harsh on DAUSER, think how would u guys feel if it passes and some of u younger once are not eligible to qualify. You should feel his pain as we all r in the same boat. And let's pray it passes tomorrow in SENATE. That's major hurdle. So, be united and pray and work hard to keep on calling them. Republicans are very against it and if one say NO, they all say NO. Unlike dems. who never stand together and always choose their own ways and honestly this is the reason noone trust them anymore. Remember, healthcare bill it took so long because their own dems. were making Obama's life miserable and he had to make back door deals which came back as a big slap on their faces. I agree with MRSMOM, dems need to show some courage and stand together behind their party. .... Good luck for Senate Vote )

You need only a simple majority of the total number of representatives who vote for a particular bill...

No, read the actual bill. The SOH can waive certain individuals. But only extreme cases like you turned 30 the day Obama signed it. Or you are disabled and sending you back to a country would do you harm.

What about the Retroactive benefits that would have qualified folks who had 2 years of college already? How are you so sure about the age-cap?

If you were in my shoes, you would be sad also.

There will never be Retroactive benefits.
