LATINA!

When will your step dad become a US Citizen? Because US Citizens can directly petition for their step children. For some reason I thought that the marriage had to occur before the child (YOU) turned 16, but I just read that it was 18.

Please LOOK IN TO IT!

I was in a similar situation myself, but unfortunately I was 18+ when my mom married a US Citizen who she's been with for 7 years before hand. Talk about poor planning huh!?

REALLY??!!

I'm definitely going to have a serious one on one with my step dad. I have no idea when, but I do know he's in the process.

So, because you are over 18 already you can't get papers through your step dad? What about your mom?

Once you turn 18 your step dad can't petition you I was in the same situation my step dad had the chance to petition me but no thanks to our dumbass lawyer we miss the dateline by a few weeks otherwise I would of been a resident (or us citizen by now ) to get back to the topic is up to your mother to get the paperwork going but expect a long process (10+ years).

Are you sure the age limit is 18? I thought it was 21. My mom married my step dad and now he wants to petition me but I'm 19.
