Here is my opinion guys. Not trying to sound very excited but Pelosi has said this in the past: the house will only vote on immigration if the senate could pass it.

from my understanding, it's very likely that Pelosi will brinf up Dream Act as a stand alone bill. In the Senate, if 59 Democrats could unite + Dick Lugar (R-IN.) could vote to break the filibuster, I'm sure Dream Act will pass because we have more than 50 solid yes votes for Dream Act.

Senator Collins supported the DA and supported the DADT, however she voted no on the defense bill with both attachments because she did not like the DA or DADT in there.

Furthermore, there were other republicans that were on the fence or in favor of the DA but only wanted to see the bill as a stand alone bill.

The issue is which democrats would be against the DA as a stand alone, because last I heard they were not all in favor, they only voted yes last time because the DA was attached to the defense bill but it would be likely that they would not have voted yes on a stand alone version of the DA.

In any case, these are welcomed news, they are probably putting it through this early considering that Kirk would take the seat on the 29th and has already informed that his vote would be a no, this will be the best chance the bill will have for a couple years probably.

The stake for DA now is higher than ever. We only need 60 votes to break the filibuster; after that, the DA only needs a simple majority to pass. I'm very positive that Reid could unite the caucus to break the filibuster. Then once the filibuster is over, the Senator could vote their conscience.

hopefully of the senators that would be replaced after jan 1st, involves several that would have voted no or where on the fence last time, here is hoping that they take this opportunity to vote yes on the DA.

I honestly believe that this is be best chance that we have of DA passing. let's look at history:

1986 Amnesty, passed on November 6 during the lame duck
1994 245, bill clinton passed this law in the lame duck session after loosing the house.
1998 245(i) bill clinton passed the 245 extension on december 15, again in the lame duck session.

so, history is on our side.

Next, in order to gain the presidency in 2012, democrats have to reinforced their base which are hispanics, gays, blacks, minorities, etc. this means they have to deliver on their promises. further, i believe that all democrats will unite for the sake of the party, and those who lost such as lincoln of nebraska, i mean this guy can care less he lost anyways.

therefore, i think that now it is when the DREAM ACT WILL PASS!!!!

This lameduck is our only chance. So everyone gather up.
Dream Act has the most momentum right now since it was created in 2001. DA has always been around, why would it go away now? I have been following the DA closely since 2001.

Immigration passed in 1986 control and it was brought up in 2006/2007 so why won't it come up again?

1986 was under Rep control so was 2006/2007 so this lame duck is one of our chances coming up.

You raise valid points,I made the same comment a while back about a general legalization program happening every ~14 years. In the UK,If one has been there for 14 years whether legal or illegal you may apply for Permanent residency[ILR].The only thing one must do now.The US passed legislation in 1972 and 1986 for legalization so who knows at this point if something is coming up,as it seems overdue.

Will the Dream act pass ?I'd have to say I don't agree there due to the elections.I think if Reid had lost his seat and Durbin became Majority leader the outcome might have looked a bit better over the next 2 years.
