In the sphere of politics, morality is at the lower end of priority. All the silly bickering I've seen between fellow DREAMers, arguing for one side over the other, is nothing but an exercise in futility.

A politician may begin with enthusiasm to do what is 'moral'; however, once in power, in order to retain that grip, they need to do what they need to do to be in control. Don't fool yourselves that they are dedicated to help you. There are outliers, but they are a rarity. It's a dog eat dog world and as my boy Niccolo Machiavelli once famously said

"It is better to be feared than loved"

Let that sink in.

Why hasn't Durbin come forward in support of the bill?

What bill? What we’ve seen so far is just a draft/outline. We don’t even know if it’s final.
