this is great..

We gotta keep working, then finally draw up an official-looking DREAM document.

Then, we will have it delivered to Durbin, and his cosponors.

This is great work guys.

I don't think dream is the problem. The problem is the view people have of illegal immigrants "law brakers who don't want to pay taxes and just want to reproduce" - that is the type of comment I keep seening over and over again. And I hate to say this but it does not matter if we were brought here or not by our parents people just clump all illigal immigrants together. We can make dream as restrictive as we want it won't matter.
What we need to do is educate people about every "illigal" immigrants plight. Like the stuff about we jumped ahead of people in line-well for many of the illigal people here there is no line because the US gov will not issue visas for poor people, so in the first place there was no line to get into. Its not like our parents were lazy and didn't want to apply-its just that their is no possible way that the US would grant them legal entry.( I know a lot of you came under visas, but the problem is that people do not make that distiction). So after that what are the opitions left to them-enter illegaly-risk their lives and ours so they can put food and shelter in front of us. Once "illigal" people are here- american people think its as easy as paying a fine and filling out some paper work and bumm you are legal. But were are all lazy "mexicans-(again not true)" who would rather get drunk and reproduce than do anything that simple-right!!!! Wrong most people don't know that under the current immigration system all those 11 million immigrants (including us)can't do anything to fix their status.
I know our parents broke the law, I know we are braking the law, but it isn't because we are lazy and don't want to assimilate it is beacause their is nothing we can do. And I'm sorry to say this but I think that until people learn about how difficult things are then I don't think we are going to get any support for dream or anything else. Our parents uneducated or not they work hard like we do and they deserve a path to gain legalization as well-please do not forget that. illigal is illegal is not that simple.

A little off topic, but have you heard they're making a new Street Fighter IV for next gen consoles?

I think many of those points are good --- but I don't think you don't want to make such a burdensome paperwork and documentation requirement that no one can get through within ten years. Look at the nightmare they are having just trying to process the new passport requests from u.s. citizens - and that is a very low paperwork process.

And if you start putting in a bunch of stuff about multiple bachelors degrees ? no, you will just piss off the alipacers and the mainstream. Some guy working as a mechanic or in an office or as a farmer or virtually any "normal" job will think you guys are a bunch of spoiled brats (sorry). Go ahead and get law degrees, or become doctors or whatever - but don't throw it out there in that way.

Ya know, I kinda like this idea, even if it is just speculation. So my anal list-making self came up with something, and I used little snips from here and there in this thread to give credit. Here goes:

To Even Qualify:
1. Must pass a series of background checks, fingerprinting/biometrics, criminal record checks etc. (to appease those who make the "possible terrorists" claims.
2. Must have verifiable proof of high school completion (most diplomas and verifications from schools have unique seals, etc.)
3. Must have verifiable proof of length of time in U.S. (i.e. official government documents, company bills/notices that can be checked, official school documents, official travel documents, maybe tax documents (could be controversial), etc.)
4. Age limit? As mentioned, it may be best to leave this as is so more people aren't weeded out, like lilbawler and lutier

Once Deemed Eligible:
1. After submitting proof of college (from an accredited institution) or military enrollment, will receive temporary conditional resident status and the ability to legally work, both to expire in 6 (?) years.
2. During that period, applicant will be required to complete the following:
a. Complete x amount of time in the military, with an honorable discharge or continuation of service
OR
b. Graduate with an associate's degree and 1000 hours of verifiable community service
c. Graduate with a bachelor's degree and 850 hours of verifiable community service (c = 150)
d. Graduate with an associate's followed by a bachelor's degree and 700 hours of verifiable community service
e. Graduate with 2 bachelor's degrees (in different fields) and 550 hours of verifiable community service
f. Graduate with a bachelor's degree followed by a master's degree and 400 hours of verifiable community service
ALSO:
1. Applicant must not obtain a criminal record during this period
2. Applicant must not leave the U.S. w/o permission for more than x months at a time
3. Applicant must not apply for any forms of welfare from the government (i.e. unemployment, etc.)
4. Applicant cannot apply for any forms of federal financial aid whatsoever, but may apply for state-aid, if available, and any private forms of aid for which they are eligible.
5. Applicant must pay a fine of $1000 at the end of said period.

If Applicant Successfully Completes Above Requirements w/in Specified Period of time, they will become eligible for permanent resident status, based on the following:
1. Applicant must repeat a series of background checks, criminal history checks, etc
2. Applicant must submit all verifiable documents of proof of above requirements in a timely manner, to be later specified
3. Applicant will not be able to sponsor or assist in any way any current family members for immigration purposes
4. Applicant will not be eligible for a period of 10 (?) years to apply for citizenship, and after the period, if eligible, must apply in the same manner as all other legal residents (i.e no special treatment)

So that's that, just my take. Again, a lot of this came from ideas from a lot of y'all, so thanks. Yay or nay?
Hows that? Too many community service hours, or not enough? Too low of a fine?
