Yesterday evening the full board met to discuss the organizational strategy for the next two months. In that meeting it was determined that the DREAMweavers would go ahead with plans to purchase the first of five manufactured homes in area trailer parks to serve as contact points for the organizational mission.
The first mobile learning classroom and legal center will be located in the Four Seasons Mobile Home Park in Tyrone, GA. The site was selected for its population and amenities and offers a community center for large group meetings and organizing.
It was also determined that DREAMweavers will continue to serve the surrounding area primarily with GED services because it is a prerequisite for both deferred action and the possible path to citizenship. GED classes are also a significant need in the communities being served and provide an introduction to the communities.
Funding sources were discussed in an effort to generate capital for the purchase of future sites and the maintenance and operating costs. Several dates were set up to meet with potential donors and establish partnerships.
Several meeting were established for next week to meet with current organizations that provide free legal support in the Metro Atlanta area who have responded to requests for partnerships. The organization is also making plans to become certified with the Bureau of Immigration Appeals to provide legal support for current and future immigration issues.
The next meeting is set for June 14th at 6:30PM at the La Hacienda in Fayetteville, GA. Everyone is invited to attend
