2025 and beyond, Dreamers/DACA.

Hello all, I just want to get everybody's perspective and vibe going into the new year.

I am being pragmatic that Trump won't really touch DACA and he'll just let the courts and SCOTUS kill it.
He and his campaign really never ran on DACA or even mentioned it at all. Everytime they are asked about it, they always deflect to the answer, "We have to deport the criminal illegals first and we'll go from there."

Honestly I believe that he will deport the millions of criminals who have deportation orders or who are already in jail and the recent arrivals during the Biden years.
Just like the wall, when he said he built it which was just existing barriers in the border, I think Trump will just say he deported millions which were the criminals and recent arrivals and make it seem he saved the country from the invasion.

He cant run for reelection anymore, so hopefully he can find a solution for us which he tried to do before but Democrats just wouldnt agree to it because they didnt want to give up other concessions like the 14th amendment birthright citizenship, asylum, and other bullshit for recent arrivals.

I could be wrong but i would like to hear your takes, vent, opinions and predictions below.

I also believe all these need to happen to find an ending to our stories.

This is it guys, We cant live the way we lived the past 25-30 years.

We need to end this chapter in our lives and finish the story.

Regardless if we are here or our country of origin.

Thank you friend. Honestly I am more worried about Stephen Miller and Homan than I am afraid of Trump. I don't think they'll touch DACA initially but I think it's a matter of time.. I just hope I can get one more renewal in at least..

It's reasonable to think Miller and Homan will probably not let anyone that want a solution for DACA in the room.

Fun fact: If I recall correctly, Homan was a contributor to the project 2025 document.

Thats fair but there are also people in Trumps ear like Elon Musk and Tulsi Gabbard.

Daca will most likely play the same role it did in 2016, a bargaining chip to get Dems to agree to stricter immigration policies. One difference in my opinion is that Dems now desire stricter immigration policies, as seen in the latest immigration bill (enforcement only). One thing to look out for is how the Senate parliamentarian rules on immigration being included in the budget reconciliation. We may also see Dems more willing to embrace a temporary extension of daca if Republicans offer it for end-of-year bills in exchange for immigration reforms.

Expect to see an enforcement-only bill being pushed initially. That will change depending on the Senate parliamentarian

These deals, bargaining, and negotiating only matter if the Dems end up in control of the house. Their votes would be needed to pass legislation in the House. Right now, it's at 204 Dems and 214 Republicans, with 218 needed for a majority.

If the Rs end up with control of the House, they literally will control every branch of the government: House, Senate, SCOTUS (thanks Trump), and Executive. So there will be no need to trade and negotiate with Dems. Meaning, there will not be an incentive at all to put DACA on the table in a trade or as a bargaining chip for D votes in exchange for whatever insane immigration laws Trump and Rs in Congress want to pass.

A whole lot of people on the forum are extremely high on copium and not thinking critically. There may not be a need for Rs to strike a deal or negotiate at all with Dems. Trump already has most of the government in his control.

For those of you that want "all this to end", be it good or bad because you are tired of waiting... Stop throwing us who are fine with DACA a d a 2 year EAD under the bus. You've had 12 years to get a plan B in order and execute it. Why are you waiting for politicians who haven't done shit on immigration for decades to decide your future? You decide. If you desperately want an end to this, self deport already. Or work on your dating game and get married to a USC to adjust your status. Or move to a different country where you can work and be happy. You've had 12 freaking years.

This is correct. If Maga takes the House as well (which it looks like they will), it will be much easier for Maga to pass whatever policy they want. They may even look at eliminating filibuster and if that happens they will pass literally whatever legislation they want, no checks or balance to exist.

I also would love to keep DACA and 2 year EAD.. At least for 1 or 2 more renewals..

Also don't forget that Trump can also easily instruct the justice department to not defend Daca in the current court case and end things that way too..

The Senate has a 60-vote threshold.. Rs will have 52 so they will need 8 Dems to pass bills outside of the budget reconciliation. Also, the house will have a small thin majority and they are hard to unite..

While unlikely, there is a possibility of a deal in this new congress. Rs have a massive wishlist that cannot be passed via the budget reconciliation. Dems seem like they want to change their position on immigration so they may be willing to accept asylum reforms and other similar changes.

There is nothing we can do other than hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
