Electrical engineering. 80k before taxes as an intern in SF (which is more like 60k in other cities). Going to try to start the own business though since working for others can get boring no matter how much they pay you.

Me and my wife now just got married in July, we sent a petition out for my greencard. I don't have to worry about DACA for myself but I do have siblings who are under DACA, I hope everything works out and the government does something about this mess. There's too many people with great potential not able to fulfill because of their situation.

I've been in the Mechanical Engineering trade working in commercial and industrial high rise buildings for a decade now, surrounded by all sorts of other trades, and it's funny to read this thread 'cause i know most of you are lying about what you make. Stop it!

Does anybody have advice on how to get an internship. I am majoring in Accounting in the Houston area. I have made a Linked profile and everything. I have gotten the first interview after that I have never heard back from them. To the people that have gotten great jobs. How did you guys improve on your job interview skills?

I used to be a member here long time ago. My name was Lifescks talk about optimism with my new name...

From my experience the great jobs are through connections since hiring people is based on trust. Very rarely do you get interns through the online application process so you end up with interns that are the son/daughter of someone that works there. One way is to build up your connections and ask who they know so they can get you an internship interview. Another option is to look elsewhere where accounting is hot such as NY.

As for interview skills you need to anticipate the questions they will ask you and prepare answers. Make sure you know your stuff and are able to relate back to your past experiences. Also prepare good questions for them so they know you are actually interested.

I have a bachelors in Accounting and have passed 3 parts of the CPA. You can definitely talk to me by PM if you want. I assume you are in college since you're talking about getting an internship. You're definitely in a great position. My advice would be to use your college career center resources and meet companies through them. Business schools here in the US offer great opportunities for internships especially for Accounting students. Let me tell you the big accounting firms absolutely love college students and they love getting you started as an intern. As for the interview, the basics would be just to dress absolutely professional (suit and tie) and most likely you will get very general questions (ex. What would you do in a situation when you're faced with a conflict? What is your greatest accomplishment? How would you approach a new employee? ..you get the drift) Every now and then you can also throw in some technical words related to Accounting to get ahead of the game and score some points with the interviewers. Also, take a list of professional references. Give that list to them right at the end of the interview. I am talking about people you have worked with (could be through project like volunteer, job etc). Also, absolutely prepare a list of questions. You don't have to memorize them! Write them all down on a paper and take it to the interview. The job that I just got they asked me absolutely NO questions during my second interview! What a curveball. I'm the one who asked questions for like 45 minutes and there were times when I pulled stuff from thin air. Trust me. Once the interview gets going you will become absolutely comfortable. PM me with some other info like what state you're living in and what not. I can give you personalized advice just like a friend of mine gave me. GL.

That's a depressing thought because... nope, I have no plan.

But anyway, I make $62k/yr with about about a $7k Christmas bonus (non-guaranteed, going off of last year). I'm a mechanical/design engineer at a small-medium sized manufacturing company.

Honestly the thought of what's going to happen once a republican gets elected or the courts strike down DACA keeps me up at night. Unfortunately I'm not in any relationship and I don't want to marry anyone specifically for citizenship so I'm basically up a creek.
