I am posting this forum in regards to a question I have regarding travel. I am currently an undocumented high school Junior attending high school in California. A few weeks ago I applied to an engineering summer program at Cornell University in New York called the CATALYST Academy. Yesterday I was told I was accepted and I would very much like to attend. My question is could I fly to New York with a school I.D. even though I am undocumented? I have been told by friends and teachers that I can because I am underage, but I want to be completely sure. In addition, if I can fly to New York should I take any precautions? Also, would taking a bus such as Greyhound be a better option? I would very much appreciate a speedy response due to the confirmation of attendance deadline for the program.

You might have to prove you're underage so bring along a birth certificate or something.

You don't want to take Greyhound. You will have to pass many checkpoints.
Do you have a passport from your home country?

Actually, I have a similar problem with flying to CALIFORNIA from New York. but I have passport from my home country.

Don't use student ID, use your passport even without visa. I did it many times. I am sure a student ID will not work.

According to TSA website, if you are under 18, you don't need to show an ID.
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtrav...documents.shtm

"Adult passengers (18 and over) are required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID in order to be allowed to go through the checkpoint and onto their flight."

I flew one time for a tournament as a school group and I only showed my school ID. They asked me how old I was and I said 17. I think when you're 18 and under they don't care... but don't quote me on that, it's been almost 5 years since I went.

How do you proof that you are under 18 without any form of ID?

Remember that Harvard kid who tried to board a plane with his student ID and almost got deported? Just use you passport, it's safer.

I agree with what seems to be the general consensus that has surfaced in this discussion, use your Passport. If you use your ID, I am not too sure how they will determine that you are actually underage.

Avoid the greyhound, Border Patrol checks that mode of transportation and a lot of people have been deported as a result of thinking that the greyhound is a safer option compared to flying, which is not 100% safe, but so far seems the safest mode of travel, and fastest, and sometimes cheapest.
