Just a thought - I work with a lot of liberal and social service type groups - the lack of awareness about DREAM is astonishing. This one act could do more to improve the quality of life - and decrease social costs -than any free pre-school or health insurance bill out there !
I think you guys need to put some effort into making sure that this actually does get on the floor and voted on and not sacrificed to politics by the supporters. I think some of them are so focused on Iraq that they don't realize that there are thousands of young people right here who have no opportunities and no future and no chance at decent health care and who are more likely to be victimized ,etc. etc.etc. I think it would be good to remind the sponsors of DREAM , and supporters, that your lives matter. Don't let them ignore your issues in order to get a quicker pull out or to make a point with Bush. Talk about poverty, social injustice, personal hardship etc. with the ones who are to the left - talk about the military option also - but be careful because I think some of them are worried that you'll just be used as cannon fodder - so I would word it as the military being a viable option and a choice to improve your training and career options as well as contribute to your community or society. (for some reason liberals seem to like the word "community" while conservatives seem to like the word "country" I have no idea why - they mean the same thing ! )
Just my opinion based on what I see and hear. This is just aimed at the liberals, obviously the arguments are a little different for the conservatives. Both valid - just different. If I'm off base ignore me.
