I've actually seen that reddit thread they're talking about. Warning signal was only available on android phones, though.

This is a very dark development. Body cameras are a good measure that can act both as a restrain towards police abuse and as a transparency tool that shows how difficult police work can be.

The people who passed this are up to no good.

Cameras protect both sides. Horrendous idea and now your officers are vulnerable to random accusations. Not only that now they can do crimes with the benefit of hiding behind the badge. Bad idea all around.

So they don't have to wear bodycams no more

I think its also to hide embarrassing events where they accuse citizens of being illegals, like that one US veteran where they arrested them for having a "fake" ID that turned out to be real.

Presumably theres a lot of evidence that needs to be FOIA'd out and also to help reduce evidence against ICE for lawsuits. Turns into a he/said she said.
