I'm JP, I've been on this forum a couple of times, and I'm undocumented myself. I'm a student at Columbia Journalism School, and I really want to do a video project on young Dreamies in high school who are aware of the uncertainty that awaits them once they graduate. Seniors would be fantastic, but other years are great too, as well as those who graduated just last year and are essentially biding their time until laws change.
I know how frustrating it can be to have nowhere to turn and nothing to do, regardless of the education you worked so hard to acquire.
This video piece will be about 10 minutes long, and I basically want to chronicle the feelings and daily lives of three or four Dreamies. It's not going to be too intense, and I'll only be needing to follow you around and interview you for a couple days, nothing too crazy (I promise). You'd allow me access into your school life and home life and of course, your own personal struggles as you try to finish your high school years despite being unsure of what will come next. Or perhaps you're not struggling at all, and you're lucky enough to be perfectly set with college or job plans. I'd be interested in speaking with you, too.
I know you're thinking that you would never do this, because of course, your faces will be shown on camera. I can change names and such, but I really don't want to blur faces because then it doesn't look quite as genuine. However, to assure you, this will be for class only, and the only people viewing this will be 15 of my very liberal classmates, and my two (again, liberal) professors. I just really want to do this project for myself - I graduate in May and want to do so with one piece that is truly special to me (and not to mention, kickass) - and for you too, for all of us Dreamers. I think it could be really deep, and really real, and a really great thing to do and ultimately see.
So, if you're a high school student (or recent graduate) living in New York City, and someone who would be comfortable doing this and willing to let me invade your space for about a week at some point in early April, please contact me (personal message is fine, or just reply on here and I'll send you one).
