Is it necessary to transfer my earnings from my old ss to the new one?? Can I just leave it alone or will it happen automatically when I do my taxes??

You HAVE to call the IRS person to transfer your wages to your new social from yout ITIN. Also you can apply to open your tax returns for the last 3 years so you can be reimbursed for all that the government didn't pay you while you were "Legit"

I was just wondering since I read a thread here that somebody transferred their earnings and it turned out it was a ss that actually belonged to someone and now she is being investigated... it's only about 3 years work and if I can avoid myself some headaches I'm all for letting them go down the drain

Is not about transferring earnings from SSN to SSN. If you filed your taxes using an ITIN...all those earnings belong to your ITIN, not the "fake" SSN you were utilizing. The thread above shows how to rescind your ITIN once you have a valid SSN, in which all earnings and info is transferred from your ITIN to your SSN.

The problem occurs when individuals files taxes using the fake SSN, instead of their ITIN...that is why they get caught up.

I transfered my itin information to my SSN with the IRS last year, however last month when I called the Social Security Office to ask them about my funds they say that on the record they only have the ones for 2012 no more and if i worked before I needed to bring my w-2s to their office so they can transfer them but Im not sure if i wanna do that. Have you check your balance with the Social security office and verified that in fact you have all your years of work in your account?

When I used to work with a fake SSN, I always filed my taxes using my ITIN...so all "funds" were attached to my ITIN and never to the fake SSN. If you didn't file with your ITIN, then you can't claim from the SSN that wasn't yours because that is identify fraud and you can get in big trouble. Make sure you filed using your ITIN, otherwise...talk to a CPA to help you out.

Why would you not transfer all your earnings?
Is it true that it might mess us up when and if there is ever a reform?

ive never filed my taxes with the fake ssn, always with my itin thats why IRS was able to transfer my earnings but it doesn't reflect on the SS office or database, only reflects last years , you should try calling social security and ask them how many years show under your ssn

the IRS shows all my years of work on their side because they transfered all my earnings, however the Social security office only shows last years earnings since my employer reported it with my new ssn and my w-2 came with my ssn
