I listened to a talk by Jin Park last night, he is the DACA Harvard Rhodes Scholar. Funny guy he is definitely leaving the US to get his PhD at Oxford, even though he was accepted to med school. He wants to come back to at least be a doctor for his parents who still don’t have health care.
It was really interesting to hear some things from behind the scenes of him getting the scholarship. He thought it would be 10 years of DACA students applying before a DACA student would win the Rhodes Scholarship. The plan was that Harvard would just keep sending DACA students to the Rhodes Scholarship until they changed the rules.
Originally his plan was to work, help out his parents and go to community college and hope to transfer to a four year after two years like a lot of people with DACA.
