Does anyone know if Arkansas gives in-state tuition.

Since when does Texas give in-state tuition to illegals? My sister graduated from a University in Texas and she alwasy paid out of state tuition becasue she was illegal. Now my question is, why can't she become legalized sooner? She struggled years to pay for her education and hasn't been able to use her degree. Immigration laws are tough, she is married to a United States Citizen and has yet to become legal.

The Dream Act is supposed to help illegal students who were brought into the country by their parents'. It will help them become legal and continue their education. I was one of those students and I wish for this to pass. When I graduated from High School I was at a dead end, I wanted to go to college and pursue a career but there was no immigration law out there to help me. I was in school since kindergarten and graduated, I was thaught to love the United States and was hit hard when I realized I was not going to have the opportunity to go to college.

Hey Vicky,

I'm not sure when your sister graduated, but I know that now you can indeed get both in state tuition and financial aid in Texas. Texas passed a bill to give in state in 2001, called HB 1403.

By the way, if your sister is married to a citizen, why can't she legalize? How did you guys enter--w/ a visa (real or fraudulent) or illegally?

We entered illegaly, and she's afraid to start becaue she doesn't want to end up being sent back to Mexico. Wow, so they give in-state tuition and all, didn't know that, but I know my sister paid her way through college and university.

Yeah...that would be the only option, then. Hopefully dream will pass soon and she won't have to.

Yeah, sucks doesn't it? I'm not sure how it works in Texas, but I know the Californians have to fill out some kind of form...like a waiver or something...to get in state, so maybe she wasn't aware of that.

Yeah, you have to fill an affidavit and get it notarized saying that you've graduated from a Texas high school and went there for 3 consecutive years, or have lived in Texas for at least 12 months.
