I'm planning on applying for advance parole to see my grandmother one last time. I'm concerned about the timing though. I'm currently in a university about to go to my senior year of engineering degree, so, missing classes could be an issue. I asked my immigration lawyer and he says the processing time is about 6 months and some people here have gotten their forms in about a month, so I'm not sure about the times. I want to travel there in August ideally, so I'm trying to time my application so, my advance parole doesn't expire before I am free to travel. (Assuming I get it ) Also, what is the time period you get to travel with AP applied for humanitarian reasons? I know the times aren't exact for anyone, but any help is appreciated. In the end, I'm going to prioritize traveling over school, but if I can eliminate any conflicts beforehand, it would be great.
If you send in your request now, it's more than 95% certain that you'll have it in time before August.
When you do the application, you will ask for the amount of time that you will spend outside the country. Typically, when you are asking for humanitarian reasons like the one listed above, they will give you the time you ask for.
An example, you could ask for 6 months even if you'll be back within 1 month. The AP allows you to travel between the dates listed so it may be better to ask for a long length and go when you can.
