How, exactly, is Obama supposed to force a Republican House of Representatives to pass a bill that he wants? They tried to pass the DREAM Act in the last Congress that was controlled by Democrats, but it was filibustered in the Senate by Republicans and a few rogue Democrats. How is that Obama's fault?
People invest way too much in the myth that the President is all-powerful. Yes, at the end of the day you need a supportive President who will sign rather than veto the bill. But the bill has to get through Congress first, which means that a lot of energy has to be put into swaying public opinion, pressuring sitting Senators and Reps, and trying to elect those who support the legislation. Sitting around complaining about the President who supports the DREAM Act is not helpful.
