I have been on the DAP website for over a while now, so I think it is time to tell my story to all my fellow dreamers.
Before my parents got married in 92, my father had his own business, house, and land in Mexico. My mother and father married on July 4, 1992. My mom later got pregnant to find her with a suprise that she was expecting twins. Everything was going great until the meat market declined. Well my father ended up going bankrupt. The only option wehad was to immigrate to the United States of America, which is what we did...I was only 4 months old. I never saw my home in Jalisco, MX.
When we arrived to the United States we arrived at my aunts house. While growing up, I grew up around mostly girl cousins. Their success in life inspired me to do the same. The only difference between them and I was our status in the country.
Academically I have exceeded in the majority of my courses and AIMS(state education measurments). I have recieved A's in every possible Honors/AP course at my high school. This has placed me in #1 rank among my class with a G.P.A. of 4.8. I have been involved in many extra-curricular activities such as FBLA, NHS, and Student Council. I am now 16 and next year is my senior year, my last year in high school. I have no idea what I am going to do after high school, but I am afraid of what is going to happen.
People have always thought I am a U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident...if they only knew the truth. Some people will find out sooner or later, since I live in Arizona(stupid SB1070). People always ask why I don't drive, I answer by saying I have no need to drive. I have always wanted to have a job but I cannot.
My status...the majority of my relatives are U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents, including my grandfather. In June of 1999, my uncle filed I-130 for my mother and the rest of the family. Since we arrived in before 2001 and the application was approved we qualify under 245i. The gov't is working on cases with priority dates before December 8,1995. Meaning that I have to wait about 3.5 years until visa numbers become available unless they become available faster. By then I will have reached 19.5 years. I just hope I have yet not reached 21 years of age by then that way I can qualify as a derrative beneficiary. (I have read alot on immigration laws that apply to us)
I like to feel optimistic for the future, I want D.A./C.I.R. to pass. But as the days pass it seems like any legislation that might be debated in congress will be impossible. I feel my only hope is my uncles petition, I just hope it happens faster. My name is Antonio and this is my story.
Wait so if you came to country before 2001 you qualify for 245i? Don't you also have to also be filed before 2001?
No,it is actually before Dec. 2000 & have an application for permanent residency filed before April 30th,2001.However,if someone is placed on the application of a pending petition through their parent or other immediate relatives they may also qualify for 245i Derivatively making it possible to adjust status independently within the EB or FB categories of immigration,no matter how they entered the US !
@Super,you are the exact reason why the Dream act should be enacted but I am glad you are not relying on it as your sole avenue for legal status, especially with so much potential.
