Hello from Texas

My parents brought me from Mexico to be able to take care of my down syndrome little brother when I was 6. Everything went great in my first years of school until I got into high school. In high school I had lots anxiety going on field trips because we always had to cross an immigration checkpoint. This caused me to develop an avoidance of any after school activity that required travel. I graduated in may 2006 with a 3.95 GPA.

After graduation the realization of being illegal sunk in. Even going to the local Community College was too expensive for my family. Through hard work I was able to go 3 semester to college.

Then suddenly, disaster struck and everything came crawling to a halt.

My father died last year of a heart attack and the money and motivation that came from him was gone. With him my dreams and aspiration went as the main motivation in my life disappeared.

Adding insult to injury we were about to become legal residents last year after waiting ten years and wasting thousands of dollars. Since my father died, the application for legal residency that my mother (legal resident) applied for 10 years ago was terminated even after we were approved. The only thing that was left to do was meet the people from INS in Juarez. All this happened when my parents applied for residency for us we all were part of a package under my fathers name. This made the painful event of losing my father worse since his dream of his children becoming legal residents was blocked because of his own death.

After almost tasting the taste of legality in the United States, the only recommendation my lawyers gave me was to get married with a US citizen.

I am know 21 years old and have not gone to school since his death

Now my only hope is the Dream Act.

Yup, that's the only recommendation I always get too...

I am SO sorry about your father, and for the rest of it, we feel your pain

You seem smart, strong, and driven, you can get through this. We are all hoping for the Dream Act, we just have to use our own drive to get this passed. I know it's hard right now, but be positive

welcome to dap.... sorry about your dad i cant even imagine the pain you are going through... it must be extremely hard when someone who supported you is taken away from you so suddenly....try to use that pain as a motivation to keep going... Hopefully things will come together and dream act will become a reality and your dads dream will come true... keep your head up.

Omg... I'm so sorry to hear about your story... I can't even begin to imagine the immense pain...
Having someone dear and so close to your heart taken from you is not an easy thing to go through, I know. Your situation is just... wow.
It honestly brought tears to my eyes. ~hugs~

But don't give up! Don't lose hope!
This country may be filled with people who don't understand the pain and struggle we go through every day, and people who are judgmental and not understanding, but fortunately for us there ARE people out there who see the injustice, the suffering, and the pain! Thanks to those people we have something like the Dream Act waiting to be passed!
Don't lose hope, because we DO have hope, and things WILL get better!

Just remember, the night is at its darkest hour right before the dawn...
Your life will take a better turn. Have faith! Keep fighting!
We'll all keep fighting alongside you!

♥

Hey eddit, I'm extremely saddened and would like to say sorry for the loss of your father..You have come a very long way in this battle for dream and this is definitely the year. This country has finally handed over responsibility to a competent administration and hopefully it will live up to its expectations. Please keep the faith and everything will work out for all of us!

I can't say how much I feel for you. All I can say is to stay strong...

I've been through a similar situation..the pitfalls of the immigration system. I hate knowing that there are people who have suffered the same or yet worse...

keep on keeping on!!!

An immigration judge may be sympathetic to your case, but I don't know if you have to initiate deportation procedures for that to happen.
