Hello. I am a senior in sunny hills high school, who is graduating soon in June. Although, many of my school mates already decided and applied to colleges they want to go, I still haven't done anything yet.

First let me tell you about my status. I am a korean student, who holds f-2 visa under my father who holds f-1 visa.

I moved to U.S. about 7 years ago from now...
I have unweighted GPA about 3.89 for last 3 years, and 4.34 for weighted GPA.
I am eligibility in state-wide student to attend UC (who are guaranteed admission to UCs).

Even though, I am academically high-achieving student, many things which I wanted to do after I graduate was disturbed by my status in U.S

I have been invited to many UCs and my 4-year colleges, but they are too costy since I am not qualified for any financial aid or support. (Preaching work)

But rather than going to good 4 year college I wish to go to 2-year college to learn a skill or trait which I can use to get a part-time job so that I can spend more time in things that I want to devote myself in.

At first, I have decided to go to ultrasound field, which only required 1.5~2 years of study in private college.
However, it didn't work out because of high tuition ($34,000, and uneligibility in student loan because of my status.)

Now, I really don't know what to do. Can anyone suggest me a good skill or trait for part-time job, which receives reasonable pay for someone to live?

And no matter how hard I try to find, I could not find any scholarship for person who is not permanent resident/citizen, can anyone guide me if there are scholarships provided to student like me? (I mean I have pretty high GPA also...) Also I am involved in preaching work for 840 hrs each year, (if this could be a help to find scholarship for me)

really, my life is depended on this, and I am so frustrated by the fact that I can't do anything about it.

Please, if anyone has experience, guide me, and tell me a way... Also, I heard f-2 visa holder cannot attend college except vocational school or technical school, is that true?

Please, help me...!!

I am desperate, and time is ticking away! :'(

If I remember correctly, you have to change your f-2 visa to an f-1 visa in order to be able to attend state universities. I don't much about the process, I highly recommend consulting a lawyer.

As for scholarships, this might be helpful:

http://dreamactivist.org/faq/education/scholarships/

I know scholarships that don't have citizenship requirements are hard to find, just keep an eye out for those that don't even mention, they might not require it after all or you can check with them. You also might be able to get a private loan with your parents.

Remember that you can defer enrollment while you change your visa status. Good luck!

You need to consult a lawyer to learn more about ways to attend a college as a F-2 Visa holder.

As for the scholarship, it will be extremely difficult to find any scholarship that doesn't require citizenship or permanent residency. You should not expect any scholarship.

Hi poel, I can understand that you are desperate - you are in a difficult situation. Like skysla I would consult a lawyer in your case. I also think that getting a scholarship will be quite difficult for you - good luck!

Hi Poel! Most colleges and universities provide international assistance in applying for an F-1 Visa...this is usually more efficient and cheaper than a lawyer. If the situation gets to be more complicated then it is usually suggested by the same international office that you go to a lawyer. See if any of the schools you'd like to attend have this international assistance. Good luck and keep that head up!

Wow i can't even tell you, my heart stopped beating for a second. I misread the title and I read it as
"Can someone tell me why we can't graduate from high school?"

I wish I could help but I'll be in the same situation soon so I don't even know what to tell you

Hey so I graduated high school in 07 and I am in the same situation as you. I am no expert in but what I can advise you to do is do what I am doing right now.

Go to a community college, they usually don't cost much, $1000 every 3 months for 12 credit trimester is around the average tuition then you have books. If you have no support from your parents then you can take out a loan, or use a credit card and pay little by little.

I know it's harder for people like us, but if your willing to work hard there is plenty of immigrants and even Americans who will work 2 low paying jobs and go to school at the same time.

If you are unable to do so, then work one job take less classes, on something that you would like to do on the future or just start working on a transfer program for the future.

I can't promise you that one day we'll be able to finish our studies but sooner or later Obama will have to make a law that will do something about it, and the best thing you can do now is get as far as you can with the money that you have and pray that it will come soon

Best of luck to ya
