This makes sense on all fronts, practical, realistic, and humane.

Democratic lawmaker has introduced legislation that would create a pathway to permanent residency for undocumented migrants employed in key industries such as agriculture, health care, construction, and emergency services.

New Mexico U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez introduced the Strengthening Our Workforce Act on Tuesday, saying the bill is designed to stabilize the labor force, protect immigrant families, and support small businesses struggling with worker shortages.

Why It Matters
The proposal would grant workers a two-year conditional status if they meet specific requirements, including proof of employment in a covered profession, continuous presence in the United States since January 1, 2024, and at least 100 days of annual work in an eligible sector for two consecutive years. Applicants must also pay a fine and remain in good legal standing. After completing the two years, qualifying workers could apply for lawful permanent residency.

Unfortunately, the GOP-controlled House will never allow a bill solely from Democrats. It would not be brought to a vote and would also be DOA in the GOP-controlled Senate.

I doubt immigration will be debated this congress since the GOP got their wishlist through reconciliation.

They already had a gop bill for DACA and it went nowhere. They probably think we're worse than criminals, because we're outcompeting their kids for the few good jobs. Worse than undocumented criminals that speed, flip cars, and run into buildings.

Especially now that the economy has officially tipped into more job seekers than open jobs in the incredibly doctored stats. So the economy has probably been underwater for a good while longer than the stats were finally allowed to show.

All of these fields are short-staffed.
Immigrant workers in these fields worked through the Covid 19 pandemic and Trump's administration did not pursue the deportation of ppl working these jobs unless they committed serious crimes.

They should be allowed an opportunity to legalize their status.

The goal is cruelty against their own. To squeeze them between low wages and high cost of living. Now without SNAP they are going to have to pick up these jobs left behind by the undocumented or I guess turn to crime. Well now we know why they are flooding the streets with military.

Literally, scraps only the desperate poor from Latin America would accept. Some unfortunate citizens are now up to 3 jobs. Remember when 1 job would fund an entire household? This isn't right and this isn't the way. One job, 40hours, should fund it all. Therefore, they aren't interested in any immigration bills from what I can tell because they expect desperate people to take up these leftover low pay jobs. However, they just came back from break so who knows they might actually try to reform the system. Wait and see. Like always.

Truly, cruelty is the point.

Aside from that, I can guarantee you that no American citizen or immigrant wishes for essential workers to be deported, mistreated, imprisoned in for profit centers, or to be exploited.

The public cannot afford to lose more health care staff and the law indicates that people who benefit the country for public good are to be considered to stay.

When will the useless Democrats grow a spine and fight back? Where are the so-called immigrant rights organizations? They are grifters. The moment the funding was cut off for "refugee" services at the border, they all disappeared. United We Dream is a scam as well.

Healthcare industry is under incredible pressure. Nobody wants to become a nurse or a doctor anymore. All because they dont want to deal with the patients and THE SYSTEM. Insurance is going to do a 20-30% rate hike "soon."

They've already said it out loud, their goal is to knock the prices of things down so they are pennies on the dollar and they can scoop them up cheap and sell them for massive profits later.

Some might say, "but DJM aren't you happy that all you predicted is happening. What about your rage posts from earlier in the 2010s." Call it wisdom of time, but I don't actually like whats going on. Don't want to see what I consider to be home to be destroyed and razed as its being now. I don't want to wake up one day to a civil war. I don't want foreign powers to take advantage of the American Polycrisis finally coming to a head.

Healthcare staff cannot believe we survived a pandemic - most acutely those of us who never stopped working at the frontlines with patients - only to see the safety net being destroyed. You may think you are in great health or you have great wealth, but should you need emergency care, you may not find the care you need available any longer in your area the way things are. Appalling.
