I remember the days when this community cheered for every single approval and everyone told each other to keep their heads high.
I know it's hard to keep our chin up. Especially when President Trump has thrown in the towel and basically dismissed our cause as a nuisance. And I know a lot of you are thinking that the wise move may just be to lay low because, heck, a new issue will come up and immigration will get put on the back burner again (like it does every single time).
But I know this community is more than that! We've all fought hard pre-DACA and did what we had to do survive. Now that we still have DACA, I'm scratching my head on why we're taking this whole situation lying down!
So I was listening Preet Bharara's podcast. He's been pretty popular lately. If y'all don't know him, just Google search him, he's the former US Attorney that Trump fired because he supposedly wasn't loyal enough. He invites a lot of high profile people due to his connections to speak on the show and people LOVE listening to what he has to say! Lately, he's been all over CNN talking about the Mueller investigation developments.
So I got this BRIGHT idea. That maybe...we can ask him to do an episode on us DREAMERS in the Trump era.
If he can get someone in his connections to jump on the show and talk about our cause, that would be pretty bomber!
But...I'm also very interested in the idea, that maybe one or a few of us, could actually be interviewed and tell them our accounts and what it actually is like to live as a DACA person. Another spin, is to potentially bring a close friend/spouse/boss, or any other person who did not previously know we were DACA, but were just flabbergasted when they found out, because well...we're not that different from everyone else.
Lately, I've come to think that we've just been trying to get people in politics to paint the picture of who we are. Maybe it's time, for US to actually talk about US.
I'm going to email WNYC studios myself and see what I get and update y'all. But if anybody wants to jump on board and help me out on this idea, please post, private message, whatever medium you feel comfortable in! Heck, if you live in Portland, come find me and let's talk. I will treat to coffee and snacks
