OK for those who like to gamble in casinos here's a question. Ive heard that if you was to win a certain amount of money at a casino by law you would have to claim it on your taxes. so since we don't have SS# would it be ok to just use a ITIN instead? but Ive also heard that since you don't have papers the casino wont allow you to keep the winnings. so is it possible for individuals like us to hit it big in a casino? and FYI the casino that i go to is JACKSON RACHERIA in Jackson, Ca up in northern cali.

I think it depends on the State rules concerning gambling & how the particular Casino implements those rules concerning winnings. The best way to know for sure concerning that particular Casino is to try reading the fine print on their site concerning winning a certain amount.

I guess the general interpretation stems from "Legal resident" most of the time on why you must have papers.

I don't know..i think a TIN should work..what if you were on vacation form another country and won?? They have to have some way of working around that...They'll probably just take a larger amount off taxes..Like the lotto says they take 25% for citizens and 30% for non-citizens.

I don't know the details, but my mom has a friend in Long Island who has no papers and loves to gamble. She's won a lot of money, and she told us that when she had a boyfriend (he was addicted to casinos) he would make her play for him because 1) she was lucky 2) she had no SSN. It was convenient for him because he didn't have to pay taxes on what she made for him. She talked about very large sums of money, but she didn't tell us about how much she had to pay back in taxes for not having a SSN.

I just want to say that it's definitely possible to make $ without a SSN, try calling the casino and asking if they accept an ITIN or what happens when people win w/o having a social. I usually call places when I have a question because they don't know who I am Good luck!

well when i go i usually go with my brotherwho is a USC but there are so many cameras that it will be obvious that i was at that machine so he cant take the winning for me. but i used my passport to become a member at the casion so perhaps there is a way for some one like us to receive some money. but the taxes might be bigger like 30% or 40%.
