Took about 1 1/2 weeks to get the actual card in the mail.
I took my EAD and Birth Certificate to prove my identity (You can get your ID before you even apply foe your SSN).
To prove Residency I took both the DACA and EAD approval letter.

Not necessary but if you want to be extra prepared.. If you live with someone they can fill ut an affidavit on the website basically stating yeah they live with me, that person will have to provide 2 pieces of evidence proving address.

To The Brain:
I thought you couldn't have both an ID and DL, if it works out for you please let me know.

@crochet-pants: You're right, you do not need a SS# to get a Texas ID, you only need it for a DL. My question is how long do you wait to go apply for your ID because I got my EAD today and I want to go apply tomorrow. DPS has to verify your EAD with DHS and I'm not sure if it will be in the system already.

I was actually just researching the statutes on that last night and the statute says you cannot possess two DL's or two identification certificates (IDs). What this means is that you cannot have two of one. For example, no two valid DL's or ID cards. However, if you have ONE Texas DL, and ONE Texas ID, then it is not illegal because they are different documents. Just to be completely sure though, you can always ask that question at the DPS office when you go apply.

In most states (I'm assuming Texas, too), you can't have both a license and ID, just one or the other. That's because you can have a license or ID in another state. That sounds confusing. In practice:

Valid:
Texas ID, and Massachusetts License
Texas License, and Massachusetts ID

Invalid:
Texas ID, and Texas License
Texas License, and Massachusetts License

Note, there's nothing special about Massachusetts. Just used it as an example.

In Texas we have ID and DL.... The ID is the primary identification you provide to most places unless they ask you for your DL, but thats like only for serious businesses.. it make sense to me

You can have both in TX, but I want neither. I am keeping my NM license. It looks normal and doesn't say "TEMPORARY."

I received my EAD on a thursday and applied for my ID the following Tuesday, though I did try earlier but damn DMV servers were down.... But your cards got to be at least 5 days old by tomorrow so I think you'll be good.
